New Balance 2002R ‘Protection Pack’: Future-Proofed Flair
Since as long as time has conceivably ticked over, we humans have had the burning realization that things could be done better, we could build better. Just think of all of those wacky cartoons from the 1890s where people predicted that in the year 2000 we would be walking on water and playing golf on the moon. While golf has unfortunately not been banished to the moon yet, we still remain in quiet contemplation of how we can make the tools in our daily lives better.

When the New Balance ‘Refined Future’ collection dropped back in 2021, Yue Wu, the lead designer behind the pack, was working to imagine a uniform for the future. Something that could gracefully work within your every day, flit seamlessly between social settings and yet still give that unique, and personal touch we all need. To find that (new) balance, the Boston-based outfit gave their beloved 2002R a luxurious, premium makeover, and then chopped the upper to bits to give it that hacked, D.I.Y. effect we all know and most importantly – absolutely love.
For the latest entry in this already fabled line-up, New Balance is treating us to three gorgeous new looks in ‘Sandstone’, ‘Dark Moss’, and ‘Eclipse’. All three are available online now!
