ASICS X NAKED Copenhagen GEL–1130™: The sneakers we want, made better

For our fourth collaboration with ASICS, we wanted to create a shoe that has something to say. As sneakerheads, we live for the stories and legacies that inform the designs of silhouettes we love, those that speak beyond the moment. With this release, we wanted to create a shoe that could look good, feel good and do good. We wanted to create a sustainable, vegan-friendly shoe that looks and feels the same as any other shoe. One that can quash the misconception that sustainable and ethical products are somehow lesser than those made from traditional, animal-based materials.

And that’s exactly what we did.

We are proud to present the ASICS x NAKED Copenhagen GEL-1130™

Inspired by their message of “living uplifted with ASICS” we set about crafting a shoe that could fit seamlessly into our everyday wardrobe while promoting the well-being of the world around us. Our work began at the ASICS archives and after some digging, we found an archival pair of the outrageously iconic GEL-1130™ and we set to work.

Our GEL-1130™ features recycled materials in its upper, from the breathable mesh base to the brushed silver and sage-green synthetic faux-leather overlays - even the laces are made from recycled materials! Co-branded sockliners, shouting out our respective hometowns of Copenhagen and Kobe, are printed using water-based detailing while rubberized logos rest on the tongue. Inspired by our dive through the archives, the upper rests on a yellowed GEL™ midsole that brings all-day comfort and plenty of vintage style. The mid-foot is secured by a TRUSSTIC™ torsion arch in sage green while the rubber outsole features a composite of deep black and slate grey. Finally, the box, cobranded with water-based printing, is constructed entirely from recycled materials.

This release goes to show that we can have the shoes we want while making them in a sustainable and ethical way. They can age and wear gracefully just like any other shoe made from animal-based materials, they can feel just as good and last just as long. We’re excited for you to see it for yourselves.

The ASICS x NAKED Copenhagen GEL-1130™ launches at NAKED Copenhagen in-store and online on the 11th of August 10:00 CEST, while the global launch will follow the day after on the 12th.
