Dr. Martens at its core has always been a brand dedicated to free, youthful, unbridled self-expression. What began as a small family business in Wollaston England, would in just a few decades transform into one of the most influential footwear brands to ever do it, and it was all a bit unexpected. When the first pairs of Dr. Martens 1460 boots rolled off the production line in 1960, they were initially worn by postmen and policemen because of their comfort and durability.

That all changed as the 60s rolled along and with it came an era of social revolution, as young people broke with tradition and defied the rigid norms set out for them. As an affordable work boot, they became synonymous with working-class pride on the feet of rock legends like The Who which helped land the brand in the US. As the decades rolled on, each generation brought their identity to Dr. Martens, be it the Mods of the 60s, the glam punk rockers of the 70s, or the highly visual tribes of the 80s, the boots became a generational icon.

To celebrate Dr. Martens incredible tapestry of generational expression we gathered four amazing women from throughout the NAKED Copenhagen team to show us how they rock their ‘Docs’.

Sarah

A force to be reckoned with, Sarah is the talented lady that keeps our socials looking far nicer than they have any right to be. Having just moved in from the countryside, which we don’t hold against her, Sarah is on top of her style and is always rocking the freshest pieces.

Can you tell us a bit about what inspires your style?

I’m getting my inspiration from people in the street, my environment, and social media. Especially people like Hailey Bieber I love her style. However, I also still love to buy magazines because of the moodboards they make and just general styling from there.

Why did you choose to style this pair of Dr. Martens?

I have been looking at these Dr. Martens for a while actually. I saw them and thought they will be nice for spring or summer with a long dress, or a pair of jeans, or for autumn with some socks and a denim set or something else.

Daniella

The embodiment of cool, Daniella is one of the awesome ladies that power our stores. A fashion savant, she blends colors and styles like nobody’s business while possessing the kind of photogenic poise you have only ever seen on a Hadid.

Can you tell us a bit about what inspires your style?

What inspires my style is everything I see around me among other on social media but also the stylish people around Copenhagen. I also love some good color coordination and then I take whatever trends I feel fit my body and style and make it my own.

Why did you choose to style this pair of Dr. Martens?

I chose this pair of Dr. Martens because it’s the perfect combination of street footwear and more formal shoewear to add to my wardrobe and then I love the color of them.

Beate

Undeniably one of the wisest people this writer has ever met, whenever Beate is not crushing it at the gym, she is crushing the books in pursuit of the answers to just about everything. If you’re in need of sage advice, just drop by the store.

Can you tell us a bit about what inspires your style?

I honestly see myself as a very simple gal when it comes to clothes. I like a good pair of jeans and a white tee and then a funky shoe and some eye-catching accessories. I’m a sucker for a good hat.

I like to draw inspiration from the girls in the store but also the stylish men in my life. I don’t think clothes are gendered combined with the fact that my style is very simple, I feel like inspiration can be found anywhere and everywhere. Because I’m a student I’m definitely ballin’ on a budget though, so I like to buy staple pieces that can last for a long time in my wardrobe. My shoes and my accessories are definitely where I like to be a little more colorful and interesting, and most of the time it’s also here I really like to add color to my pretty neutral wardrobe.

Why did you choose to style this pair of Dr. Martens?

I used to rock Docs in highschool so the style was familiar to me. Normally I shy away from print, but something about these were just so wacky that I felt like they were cool. I don’t have anything similar in my collection so I thought of it as a challenge too to try and style them in a way that I would wear in my everyday life. I think it ended up turning out pretty cool and I can see myself wearing them like this to Uni or just my everyday life.

Vera

In the same vein as Vivienne Westwood, Vera, our talented graphic designer, is carrying the flag for British culture wherever she goes. A football hooligan at her core, Vera’s love for classic football jerseys and style is an essential part of her look, and if anyone could find her a vintage Nottingham Forest jersey that would be much appreciated.

Can you tell us a bit about what inspires your style?

It’s hard for me to pinpoint because there are so many places and forums to find inspiration now. But at my core, I have always, and will always be inspired by England and British culture.

Why did you choose to style this pair of Dr. Martens?

I love a classic, and now more than ever I find myself investing in pieces that I know will outlive the trend circle. And in my opinion, a black pair of Dr. Martens should be a staple in every wardrobe.
